Otra vez…bendecidos por estos dos señores, otra vez en una final, añadir cualquier adjetivo es ahondar mas en sus grandezas como deportistas, los dos jugando a lo que saben, uno a ser Rafa y otro a se Roger, muy definidos, muy contrapuestos…parece que volvemos atrás en el tiempo…
Son dos jugadores extraordinarios por que aparte de correr, y mucho, y pegar grandes tiros de mucha calidad, tienen un alto conocimiento del Tennis interiorizado y automatizado cuando desarrollan el juego, este conocimiento les diferencia de los demás…siempre y cuando sus físicos se lo hayan permitido..
Tener conocimiento es estar construido bajo una filosofía de cómo ganar puntos, es jugar bajo una concepción de juego muy definida, es conocer los principios tácticos a la perfección, tenerlos automatizados y saber combinarlos, es tener una posición en la pista adecuada a cada situación coordinada con el oponente, es tener un gran dominio en los golpes que les permite poner la bola donde quieren y como quieren a una velocidad de crucero alta, o muy alta, y con nivel de error mínimo, es ser un atleta, es tener unas aptitudes mentales y valores personales correctos para la competición, todo esto les diferencia de los demás…Rafa no solo corre…y Roger no solo improvisa…
Los veteranos encabezados por los 4 grandes (Rafa, Roger, Nolan, Andy), que llevan ya 10-13 años mínimo de monopolio, juegan muy bien al juego del Tennis, pero aparte, saben mucho de Tennis en todos los sentidos, conocen su Tennis y se conocen a la perfección, saben cómo ganar puntos cada uno con una concepción diferente…conocen su “Swing” y saben adaptarlo con el “feeling” del momento…saben moverse rápido y coordinados con el contrario…y sobre todo tienen los valores necesarios para la competición: espíritu de sacrificio, humildad, tolerancia al dolor, adaptabilidad y todo bajo una mente motivada y predispuesta a la lucha con un juego como forma de interactuar contra otro semejante…parece que están hechos con diferente molde cuando juegan…,
…pero lo curioso es que se han formado de escuelas de Tennis, academias, programas de federaciones, «Coaches» privados…
…exactamente igual que los demás jugadores, incluso los jóvenes actuales han salido del mismo sitio, pero…si todos han salido del mismo sitio, entonces:
¿Por qué esta hegemonía monótona “veterana” que esta instaurada en el circuito profesional ATP por jugadores veteranos que ni pegan más fuerte, ni sacan más fuerte, ni restan mejor…?
¿Por qué los jóvenes tienen problemas para escalar posiciones y los veteranos se mantienen año tras año e incluso mejoran y ocupan sus mejores «Rankines» en pasada la treintena?
Los jóvenes no están avanzando por primera vez desde el 1er año de la era moderna e inicio de la ATP en 1973, el cambio generacional está siendo más lento, hasta día de hoy en la era open, los jugadores jóvenes relevaban la élite instaurada con 20 años y en general los jugadores se incorporaban antes al circuito, entendiendo por circuito el “Top 100″.
Si, por ejemplo, observamos las carreras de los jugadores que han sido Nº1 desde el 1973, vemos que han alcanzado este puesto entre los 20 y 22 años con jugadores que eran “Top 10” desde los 19-20 años, y a partir de los 26-29 años van cediendo, a manos de las nuevas generaciones que con 20-22 ya están “Top 10” y ganando “Gran Slams”. Los últimos que siguieron este comportamiento en el camino hacia la élite fueron Rafa Nadal (1986), Novak Djokovic (1987) y Andy Murray (1987), Juan Martin del potro (1988), la generación del 1986-88:
- Rafa con 19 años 2º del mundo y ya campeón “Gran Slam” (Rolan Garros 2005), Nº1 tres veces con 22, 24 y 27 años, destrona a Roger Federer perteneciente a la generación anterior, 1981.
- Novak: 3º del mundo con 20 años, gana “Gran Slam” con 21 (Australia 2008) y Nº1 con 24 años.
- Andy: Nº4 del mundo desde los 21 años y final de “Gran Slam” jugada en esa edad (US Open 2008) y ganador de dos con 25-26años, actualmente Nº1 con 29.
- Juan Martin del Potro: Campeón US Open 2008 y “Top 10” con 20 años, lastima lesiones si no podría haberse convertido en un Nº 1…llevaba la progresión.
¿Porque actualmente no se puede lograr este hito?
Los jugadores nacidos entre los años 90-92 que tienen hoy 24-26 años todavía no han ganado grandes, deberían de haber ya ganado algún “Gran Slams”, y siendo Nº1 a principio de la veintena, como ha pasado en la historia desde la instauración del Ranking ATP en 1973, y la siguiente generación 95 -97 todavía lejos y sin calidad suficiente, de momento.
MUY LEJOS ESTAMOS DE QUE UN JUGADOR DE 22 AÑOS GANE UN “GRAN SLAM”: AUSENCIA REAL DE CANDIDATOS SOLVENTES EN DICIEMBRE 2016.
¿Quién actualmente que cuente con 20-26 años está en disposición real de atacar la élite con garantías para relevarlos en sus puestos? Alguno hay, pero más por deseo general de haber si…que por solvencia demostrada en las grandes citas.
…Y el circuito en general más de lo mismo, poco joven, hecho muy comentado en el entorno:
La media de edad dentro del “Top 100” en el circuito profesional ha subido de 24,8 en 2005 a 28,1 en diciembre 2016, 3,3 años más veterano.
En 2005 El “Top 10” tenía 24,8 años de media, en diciembre 2016 era de 28,4 años, 3,6 años más veterano.
El número de jugadores de 20 años en 1985 era de 29 y en diciembre 2016 de 8, y los mayores de 30 años han pasado de 14 en 2005 a 39 en 2016. (Estudio “Top 100″ por edades) Click aquí.
Pero Ante estos aburridos números que se empiezan a olvidar deliveradamente debido al bombardeo mediatico de las «Next Gen», pero que reflejan una realidad, se me ocurren una serie de preguntas:
¿Dónde están los jóvenes?
¿Por qué este envejecimiento general del circuito?
¿Son mejores jugadores los cercanos a la treintena que los del principio de la veintena?
¿Porque es más lento el proceso de cambio generacional?
¿Se ha dado esta situación anteriormente en la historia del Tennis?
¿Cuáles son las causas?
¿Es esta una generación extraordinaria o falta nivel por parte del resto de jugadores?
Es una generación extraordinaria perotoda nueva a relevado a una anterior extraordinaria, la de Sampras,en compañía de Agassi, Curier y Chang, la del 70, no fue mala tampoco, en su momento fue extraordinaria también, marco una historia del Tennis, subieron el nivel del juego y son equiparable en números a la de ahora, PUES también fue relevada por jugadores de 20-23 años (Roddick, Kuerten, Hewitt en compañía del gran Marat Safin) antes de llegar a los 30.
El talento siempre existe en cualquier generación, ¿por qué ahora el relevo debería de ser diferente?
Está claro que al final los veinteañeros actuales y los que fueron hace algunos años, coparán los puestos altos, en 2-5 años todos se retirarán, es obvio…Roger se retirará, Nadal no dará para más, Murray y Nolan aguantando…y todos los demás treintañeros “Top 100” se retirarán o bajaran el nivel y entonces es cuando estas generación coparán la elite, pero pasaran a estos por bajada de rendimiento general de todas las aptitudes debido a la edad y desgaste, no por un incremento de nivel como ocurría antes.
Aunque parece ser que existe un repunte juvenil en el último año liderados por Zverev que en este iniciado 2017 parece ser que si está en disposición, creo que si puede ser el siguiente, ha tenido suerte, ya los ha pillado a todos, digamos algo bajos de forma, Roger ya dará poco de si después de 6 meses fuera y encaminado hacia 36 años, alguna bala le queda pero debe apuntar muy bien, nuestro querido e inmenso Rafa ahí está dándolo todo como siempre, buscando causas y soluciones pero sin acabar de ser el jugador determinante de otros años, a Djokovic nadie sabe exactamente lo que le pasa, esperemos que el Amor y la Paz le traiga el odio y la guerra que atesoraba hasta hace muy poco en la competición, y los demás Berdych, Tsonga etc,etc con nuestro amado David a la cabeza ya no a la altura, veremos que pasa con Stan si sabe aguantar el nivel alto de estos dos últimos años, y por último el uno de la ATP debe solidificar ese puesto, en fin… veremos.
Pero ahora es un buen momento para pillarlos, la generación del 90 con Nishikori, Raonic y Dinitrov a la cabeza pueden tener su oportunidad, les tocó bailar con la más fea cuando tenían 20 años, no con una, sino con 4 muy pero que muy feas durante 5 años, todos estaban en la cumbre, no pudieron hacer nada, ahora si pueden, de hecho ya les están ganando, y además estarán acompañados de los más “bebes” encabezados por el esbelto Alexander, deben de estar al acecho, puede que sea un año que pesquen algo, es más, deberían pescar…si no apaga y vámonos…
Todo este entramado generacional y sus interrelaciones en forma de partidos en los torneos implica un cambio de modelo reinante en los últimos 40 años en el profesionalismo y un cambio de perfil en los jugadores del circuito, estamos en una realidad interesante, aunque a mi juicio desconcertante.
Desconcertante por que se me presenta una paradoja, la paradoja generacional, la llamo, de la cual me surgen algunas preguntas:
Si estamos en la era de más conocimiento aplicado a la formación, porque la verdad cualquier aspecto del jugador esta elevada a la enésima potencia en cuanto a conocimiento aplicada a la formación del mismo, y si además están formados con los mejores e ilimitados medios materiales, se deduce:
¿Porque son peores?
Porque al no ganar se le llama ser peor que el otro, ¿no? Al menos siempre ha sido así…
Siempre nos queda la justificación de que ahora se llega más tarde, como se oye por muchos sitios, ¡¡¡un momento ¿ahora?!!!! Nadie se acuerda que se decía de los latinos en los 80 cuando Borg y Wilander ganaban Roland Garros con 17, pues que el latino llegaba a los 23, que nosotros madurábamos más tarde, acuérdense los que tengan la edad para acordarse, , o sea que este razonamiento no es nuevo, lo que pasa que ahora no es 23, ya estamos en 26… Muchas preguntas que quedan sin respuesta, o que nadie se atreve a poner sobre la mesa…
Cambios en el juego.
No acabo de entender lo que ha cambiado en el juego actualmente …y todavía no he encontrado a nadie que me lo defina exactamente, ahora eso sí: muchos tópicos, muchos razonamientos adquiridos o escuchados, mucha repetición de ciertos mantras desde la no experiencia, mucha idea fija y todo seguido por todos para no bajase del carro: se juega más rápido, se pega más fuerte, es muy físico, hoy se llega más tarde, el punto no dura más de 5 golpes, etc, etc, pero:
¿Qué exactamente ha cambiado en la esencia del juego en la actualidad?
¿Qué es exactamente actual?
¿Desde cuándo es el cambio de juego ?
Pero que ha cambiado exactamente en el juego actualmente, por qué nos ponemos a ver a los jóvenes en general, o sea los que practican el denominado “Tennis actual”, jugadores de 16-18 años que serán los próximos “Tops”, y podemos sacar una serie de conclusiones en cuanto al juego:
- Generan gran potencia en los golpes.
- Poco sólidos.
- Nivel de error no forzado muy alto.
- Atacan todas las bolas y quieren hacer “Winners” desde todas las posiciones en pista y con cualquier golpe.
- Ausencia total de juego defensivo.
- Carencias en golpes concretos voleas, revés cortado, derecha baja
- Poco dominio de las situaciones del juego.
- Poco entendimiento del juego.
- Muy mecánicos, «swines » poco personales.
- Imposible mantener el nivel en márgenes durante mucho tiempo.
- Poca habilidad.
- Falta de concepto de juego en general.
- Falta de una fórmula para ganar puntos.
- Ninguna filosofía global del juego.
- Físicamente muy frágiles.
- Mentalmente muy inestables, poco poder para superar situaciones adversas, o sea muy flojos de cabeza
Básicamente, el juego se convierte en una sucesión de golpes hasta que uno falla, mucha potencia, poco control, poco orden, poca madurez, y luego nos quejamos que nos falta solidez, la solidez implica alto grado en control de la potencia, elevado orden y mucha madurez.
A nivel más alto pasa lo mismo en otra dimensión más acotada pero siempre se está hablando en estos términos en el entorno profesional al razonar la falta de victorias más solventes, así difícilmente ganaran un grande con 20 como hicieron los últimos arriba expuestos.
La valoración de ciertos parámetros que determinan el nivel que un jugador atesora es baja en general en comparación a su edad y en relación a sus generaciones precedentes, no hablemos de los “Cracks” que si quieren llegar a la ATP con 20 años y estar muy alto se ha de ser un jugador muy solvente a todos los niveles con 16 -18 años, hablemos de los demás, digámosles mas normales, con 18 -20 deberían ser ya mas jugadores, mas hechos, no en un camino en formación con las aptitudes todavía algo bajas, a esas edades debe de haber ya asignaturas aprobadas con nota.
Todo este rollo me hace pensar en la “paradoja generacional” y en hacerme una pregunta que no veo que se exponga en ningún foro, circulo o redes, parece que es una pregunta tabú y tan solo se acepta esta situación como buena y valida, pero me atreveré a exponerla, si los jóvenes de 20 años y los que tuvieron 20 hace poco y se han formado en los últimos 8-15 años y atesoran este nivel de actuación:
¿Qué ha pasado con la formación de jugadores en estos tiempos recientes y actualmente?
Porque algo tendrá que ver ¿no?, o ¿soy el único que se lo pregunta? ¿Alguna relación existirá? o no existe ninguna…
El 3er Contexto.
A través de la historia del Tennis los jugadores se han formado integrados en tres contextos formativos donde los chicos adquirían las habilidades con sus tres diferentes marcos socio – culturales que promovían cada uno de ellos distintos valores educativos y personales:
1er Contexto: inicio – 1973: Época clásica del Tennis donde los jugadores tenían educación exquisita ya que el juego todavía era exclusivo a sectores de población pudiente, valores tradicionales necesario para la competición de acorde con la educación y códigos socio-culturales del momento, técnica clásica y poca evolución en tecnología tan solo una mejora de la existente.
2º Contexto: 1973 – 2000: Gran influencia en los valores tradicionales heredados de 1ª época, revolución técnica bajo una constante evolución tecnológica a todos los niveles que hace a cada generación subir el nivel de juego debido al aumento de velocidad del mismo.
3er Contexto: 2000 –Actual: Perdida total de los valores anteriores con la implantación de nuevos códigos sociales donde el jugador es el centro de la atención e incluso padres, pilar básico e insustituible de la transmisión de la tradición educativa, están vendidos a los intereses de su futuro o presente tenista. Poca evolución técnica únida a poca evolución tecnológica que hace que por ella misma no sea determinante en el aumento de velocidad.
Cada contexto esta integrado por dos ámbitos que es donde el jugador se mueve, se desarrolla como jugador y adquiere los valores necesarios para competir en este deporte, el primero es puramente formativo, como adquiere las habilidades del deporte y el segundo dispone la educación recibida y los códigos que rigen las relaciones y formas de funcionar del jugador con su entorno.
Vayamos por el 3er contexto que es en el cual estamos inmersos y vemos en que ámbitos se mueve el jugador, siempre desde mi entender, siempre hablo humildemente y desde mi juicio, la formación puramente tenística actual se mueve bajo las siguientes premisas durante, mínimo, los últimos 10 años:
Ambito Formativo:
- Enseñanza muy focalizada en la técnica.
- Búsqueda de una técnica extremadamente depurada y perfeccionista imposibilitando al jugador la adquisición de movimientos propios dentro de un canal biomecánico, pero bien interpretado por sus músculos y mente, olvidándose de la interpretación del propio jugador sobre un movimiento.
- Ejecuciones técnicas demasiado complejas a edades muy tempranas que provoca un crecimiento del golpe con una falta de coordinación en la ejecución con la consecuente pérdida del control del mismo en el desarrollo a largo Plazo.
- Cultura del “Winner” implantada en todos los golpes desde edades muy tempranas, los chicos están intoxicados con una obsesión en hacer golpes ganadores. Click aquí artículo “El Virus del Winner».
- Cultura que provoca nivel de error no forzado alto con la consecuente pérdida de confianza del jugador en sí mismo, si tiras todo para afuera como se va a tener confianza.
- Poca importancia al error en los entrenamientos y luego quejas de porque se hacen en competición, va relacionado, compites como entrenas.
- Existe un olvido absoluto del juego defensivo.
- Estandarización de la enseñanza, se forman jugadores sin personalidad en el juego que juegan de una forma idéntica, sin diferenciación en sus identidades y con un patrón igualado, sin importar superficie de formación, mentalidad, talento propio del jugador.
- Las diferentes escuelas y diferentes formas de jugar se han unificados.
- Rotura del proceso evolutivo en el desarrollo de los golpes y el patrón del jugador, se quiere empezar desde edades tempranas en un punto muy avanzado que el jugador no está preparado.
- Velocidades demasiado altas en edades tempranas que provocan multitud de lesiones.
- Preparación física demasiado preventiva y benigna, demasiado científico dejando la dureza mental en la preparación, aunque en un momento dado sea algo perjudicial es necesaria para incrementar valores de superación y aguante mental ante situaciones adversas.
- Metodologías alejadas desde el punto de vista del juego.
- Metodologías benignas con un grado de exigencia a la baja.
- Pocas repeticiones en los ejercicios impidiendo una solidificación mental de los movimientos.
- Metodología muy mecánica no enfocada a hacer pensar al jugador.
Un “Cocktail” ideal para producir jugadores poco solidos tenísticamente, con poca identidad, con poco conocimiento del juego.
La formación está dirigiéndose hacia un terreno puramente técnico para aplicarlo al juego, buscando una excelencia biomecánica, para mi, es al contrario, partiendo de lo que el juego requiere se desarrollan las habilidades, el juego crea la habilidad bajo unas premisas técnicas más simples que crecen desde la persecucion de un objetivo, no desde el hecho de crearlas por ellas mismas aisladamente.
Los jugadores están siendo conejillo de indias hacia un supuesto futuro del juego registrado en estadísticas presentes como un final absoluto no probado salvo por conjeturas sin pruebas y sin procesar el desarrollo de la habilidad hacia tal fin estadístico, desconsiderando los diferentes caminos hacia una excelencia en el juego según la interpretación del jugador del propio juego de acorde sus cualidades técnicas, físicas y mentales.
Utilizando una metáfora, se está enseñando a usar un martillo, a usar una sierra, a usar un destornillador, a saber, medir, pero no a hacer una mesa, cuando simplemente al hacer la mesa cada carpintero va formando las habilidades adaptadas bajo unas premisas y dependiendo el tipo de mesa que el carpintero interpreta sobe el mismo concepto y el diferente camino para llegar a tal objeto.
El que gane en el futuro dentro de las premisas del cambio del Tennis siempre será sólido, meterá un golpe más que el segundo.
Ambito educativo:
En los últimos años también existe otro contexto social y marco metodológico en la cual los jugadores actuales más jóvenes se han formado, y se están formando, contextos con otros códigos de conducta:
- Jugadores hiperprotegidos por la base de toda transmisión de valores y educativa que es la familia.
- Los jugadores son los dueños de las relaciones con los entrenadores, son respaldados por padres y personas de su entorno, parece que ellos saben lo que les conviene y todos bailan a su son, lo siento señores, pero esto no funciona así, el jefe es el entrenador y se deposita la confianza en él, en su trabajo y en los proyectos y objetivos a corto, medio y largo plazo que tenga con el jugador, el entrenador ha de volver a hacerse valer.
- Excesivas personas alrededor del jugador en diferentes parcelas donde cada una de ellas quiere ejercer de cacique de la suya repercutiendo en las áreas de las otras y condicionando al jugador para llevarle a su terreno fomentando una perfección en cada una de ellas para hacerse valer mejor, obviamente utópica, creando jugadores con miedos e inseguridades a la falta de tal perfección o hacia una supuesta no perfección en las diferentes áreas con la consecuente pérdida de confianza cuando algo no alcanza tal supuesta excelencia, volviendo al final del punto uno, el entrenador ha de ser el catalizador de tal “Staff” y director de orquesta.
- Jugadores hipocondriacos provocado por el excesivo mimo al jugador, al mínimo dolor ya no puedo jugar, circunstancia aprovechada por estos para parar cuando las cosas no salen bien, cuando el jugar con cierto dolor es propio del nivel alto en cualquier deporte.
- Excesiva presión sobre el ranking bloqueando el sistema cognitivo de aprendizaje de los chicos que están más focalizados en puntos que en adquirir nivel.
- Profesionalización a edades tempranas, enfrentando a los chicos a situaciones psicológicas que no saben hacer frente ni tienen recursos mentales para gestionarlas, los niños son niños y no hace falta acelerar los procesos, todo llega.
- Creación de jugadores «burbuja» mimados por su entorno, incluidos entrenadores, debido a las expectativas de lo bueno que pueden ser en el futuro, pero sin demostrar nada en el presente, o sea, no ganan un partido, pero se comportan como sí hubiesen ganado un “Gran Slam”, aptitudes provocadas por el entorno y su temor a romper esa burbuja en la cual se vive muy bien.
Todo este contexto educativo – social los educan en diferentes valores a los de antaño sin ningún tipo de responsabilidad hacia su labor y poca relación esfuerzo-premio y dentro de un marco con más protagonistas involucrados que crea unos codigos más permisivo en aptitudes no correctas, mimando al jugador en pos de una supuesta profesionalidad ficticia, inducida e ilusoria proveniente de unos factores y estímulos externos sin ningún cimiento procedente del interior del protagonista que es el jugador.
Esta permisividad en ciertas conductas provoca jugadores con personalidades sin recursos mentales para gestionar las diferentes emociones propias de la competición, pero hay que tener en cuenta que la elite siempre tiene los mismos valores, ¡aunque pasen 100 años!!!! Valores y aptitudes llamémoslos tradicionales como:
ESFUERZO, CAPACIDAD DE SUFRIMIENTO, SUPERACION PERSONAL, DISCIPLINA DE ENTRERNAMIENTO, CONCENTRACION, FUERZA INTERIOR, EDUCACION, AMBICION, TOLERANCIA AL DOLOR…
Son aptitudes atemporales que se necesitan para ser un jugador “Top”.
¿Tienen los jugadores jóvenes estas cualidades?
Si, pero no al mismo nivel
¿Promueve su entorno de formación estas aptitudes?
¡Rotundamente no!!!!!!
Esta falta de cualidades mentales de los jugadores provocada por ámbitos permisivos en la niñez – adolescencia que promueve la carencia de estos atributos hace que el jugador carezca de valores deportivos para competir y entrenar seria y constantemente.
Pero lo peor es que este comportamiento traspasa al ámbito competitivo provocando que la metodología de formación mime al jugador haciéndola más benigna, mas dedicada a la ecnica ya que requiere menos esfuerzo en los entrenamientos, menos dura físicamente, menos focalizada mentalmente en el tiempo y menos exigente en relación a lo que el Tennis demanda, probablemente esta cotización a la baja en la exigencia de la metodología de formación sea problema de nosotros, no de los padres, probablemente para no molestar al cliente en pos de un marketing sobre el jugador en beneficio de terceros o, en otros casos, por temor a una pérdida de ingresos, aunque se sepa que al cliente no se le esté dando el servicio adecuado.
Estos codigos permisivos llevan la relación jugador-entorno a un terreno que es más o menos del modelo: “se hace lo que el jugador quiere”, por la razón que sea, pero en muchísimos casos el jugador manda y eso es el más absoluto de los errores que el jugador hace y el entorno permite: querer mandar, así no se consigue el máximo potencial, nunca he visto tanta falta de respeto hacia un “Coach” expresada públicamente ni tanta resignación por parte de estos.
Estos códigos de conductas no adecuados provocan entre 14-18 años una falta en formacion de valores que provoca una enorme dificultad para subir de nivel de Tennis, la mayoría de jugadores cortan su progresión en esa etapa debido a estas aptitudes, cuantos campeones benjamines, alevines, infantiles tenemos a nivel mundial que luego se quedan en el camino, jugadores con unas enormes aptitudes pero que bajo este ámbito educativo hace muy difícil que puedan afrontar con garantías una competición..
En fin, a mi entender un desastre…con cariño y humildad lo digo, pero un desastre…y yo me incluyo en el bombo, y si alguien esté libre de pecado que tire la primera piedra… Los jugadores jóvenes actuales se formaron hace 8-15 años bajo estas nuevas directrices de comportamiento y bajo los conceptos del supuesto cambio del juego, esta combinación ha sido la que ha creado a los jugadores jóvenes actuales…conclusión:
Estos nuevos conceptos en la metodología y códigos de conducta actual provocan un nivel más bajo al jugador durante los años de formación.
A mi juicio estas son las dos causas principales, si no únicas, por las que el circuito se está envejeciendo, porque los jóvenes no tienen la misma formación tenistica ni la misma mentalidad que los “veteranos”, y estas carencias provocan que los jóvenes no tengan el mismo nivel de competitividad ni la misma progresión que llevo a otros jugadores de otras épocas a la élite, están menos capacitados.
Todas las generaciones han tenido que pasar por la situación de subir de «Ranking», todas han tenido el reto de superar a la anterior, pero la diferencia es que las anteriores, a mi entender, estaban mejor formadas tenísticamente y con mejores valores que les hacían mas fuertes y con mas recursos mentales para enfrentarse a los impedimentos, esto hacia que la progresión fuese más rápida y con más cantidad de jugadores.
No será que son peores tenistas desde el punto de vista del juego, a lo mejor más eficientes biomecánicamente, a lo mejor sus músculos están mejor construidos, pero desde luego desde el punto de vista del juego y desde la esencia del jugador son peores, y los partidos no se ganan con “swines” eficientemente biomecánicos, se ganan con solidez, y para tener solidez hace falta aguantar, y para aguantar hacen falta valores.
Este “club de cuatro” es extraordinario, algo agotado por alguno de sus miembros últimamente …de acuerdo es extraordinario…pero también los jóvenes están menos capacitados…¿también de acuerdo?.
Da que pensar…
Cambio real.
Lo único real en la evolución del juego es el aumento de la velocidad del mismo que hace que las situaciones provocada para cerrar el punto lleguen antes, pero siempre bajo las mismas premisas que rigen el juego, premisas que se están dejando de atender: defensa, ataque, direcciones correctas, solidez, diferentes trayectorias, abrir espacios, que me permite mi técnica, que no me permite, como es mi juego, como puedo ganar puntos, cual es mi punto fuerte, cual el flojo, como es mi técnica de pies, como no es, que carencia debo proteger, que aciertos debo potenciar…
Si antes Borg necesitaba 25 golpes para abrir un espacio para ganar el punto a una velocidad propia de los años 70, ahora Rafa necesita 5, si antes Agassi necesitaba 10 para abrirle a Kafelnikov, ahora Djokovic necesita 5, si antes se defendía desde 5 metros detrás de la línea y se hacia el «Winner» desde casi la línea de saque, hoy se defiende desde 2 metros y el «Winner» llega apenas medio metro dentro debido a la velocidad actual, pero siempre bajo la misma forma de jugar y mismos conceptos, la velocidad actual acorta las distancias entre defensa y ataque y el número de golpes para abrir, simple.
El gran “hándicap” actual y única diferencia es que las nuevas generaciones no han aumentado significativamente y diferencialmente la velocidad de juego para que sea determinante por ella misma en la diferenciación del nivel de una forma controlada y continuada, aumentarla si lo han hecho pero ya no en margenes competitivos / seguridad, no como las anteriores que cada nueva la aumentaba dentro de tales margenes / seguridad, y tal aumento por si solo hacía que fuese un arma diferenciadora por si misma y desbancase a la anterior, aunque jugasen peor en términos intrínsecos al juego en la post adolescencia, conocimiento rectificado y aprendido en poco tiempo para convertirse en jugadores mas rapidos pero igual de solidos que la anterior, este proceso se repetia una y otra vez.
Thiem no pega más fuerte que Djokovic, pero si más que Muster, Nadal si más que Kuerten, y este mas que Wilander, y este a su vez mas que Borg y Vilas. Federer más que Sampras, y este mas que Lendl.. Djkovic es mas rápido que Agassi y este mas que Connors, etc, etc…
Federer fue el último que consiguió aumentar la velocidad de juego con margenes de solidez y seguridad para ser competitivo, hace ya 12-14 años, Por eso se paseó a principios del nuevo milenio hasta que el club de 3 la igualo, ¿pega más fuerte Kyrgios que Roger? ¿Pega más fuerte Nishikori que Djokovic? ¿Pega más fuerte Coric que Murray? Se ha llegado a un tope en la velocidad, no se puede jugar más rápido en términos de solidez, los inventos técnicos no sirven para tal propósito, a la vista está, ese es el gran “hándicap” actual, ahora este fenómeno no sucede, y como la metodología es benigna y poco enfocada a la solidez pues son incapaces de ganar por Tennis y a pegar palos desde todos los sitios, no es el camino para ganar a Murray, «mutiux» lo ganas pegando palos, o te pones solido con él o caja.
Otro argumento utilizado para la justificación es el tema físico, no se llega preparado con 20 físicamente, Nadal, Nole, Murray Ferrer si lo consiguieron con 20 a velocidades prácticamente iguales a las actuales hace 12 años, ¿por qué ahora no?
¿Ha pasado esta situación anteriormente?
Esta situación del circuito ya ha sucedido antes, y por la misma razon, la historia se repite, la imposibilidad del aumento de velocidad generó a principios de los 70 que el “Top 10” estuviese cargados de veteranos y muchos ganadores de “Gran Slams” eran treintañeros, Rosewall gano Aus Open con 37 años en 1971 y 38 en 1972, Gimeno en el 72 gana Roland Garros con 35, Laver gana 4 gran Slams a partir de los 30 en esos años, repásense esos años si tiene curiosidad y lo comprobaran, los grandes dinosaurios de los 60 todavia daban guerra en los 70.
La edad media del “Top 10 “en 1973 fue de 28,8 años, descendiendo paulatinamente hasta llegar a los 23,9 en el 85 manteniéndose en estos márgenes hasta el 2005 que no paro de subir hasta la actualidad. (Estudio “Top 100 por edades 1973 – 75) Click aquí.
Esta situación ya ha pasado…
Esto fue así porque la velocidad de juego llego a su maxima expresion con las tecnicas y materiales del momento, permitiendo esa longevidad en los campeones al poder seguir siendo competitivo contra las nuevas que no consiguian aumentar la velocidad.
Se tuvo que esperar a la irrupción de nuevas estructuras biomecánicas del golpe y apoyos unido a una incipiente revolución en los materiales de la raqueta para poder aumentar la velocidad, espera que acabo con la irrupcion de Borg y Connors a principios d elos 70.
Borg y Connors aumentaron la velocidad debido unas estructuras nuevas de «Swing» y nuevas posiciones de piernas y cuerpo que generaban mas potencia y ya les permitian las trayectorias de bola actuales, partir de estos dos señores, que a mi juicio, inauguran el “Tennis moderno”, se da por enterrado el “Tennis clásico” de empuñaduras continentales con trayectorias rectas, efectos principalmente de “Slice”, posiciones de piernas cerradas y pocas rotaciones, que quedan obsoletas en frente a las nuevas técnicas.
Actualmentente la revolucio tecnica iniciada por Borg y Connors ya esta agotándose, o agotada, para aumentar actualmente la velocidad significativamente, para volver a ser un factor diferencial se debería inventar una nueva biomecánica revolucionaria útil para aplicarla al juego en términos competitivos, cosa poco probable que pase, a mi juicio, las nuevas generaciones no han aumentado la velocidad de juego en terminos de solidez y competitividad como habia ocurrido hasta ahora.
Pero independientemente de la velocidad del juego, que es un factor determinante, los mejores siempre han jugado con los mismos conceptos que les hacen victoriosos sobre los demás, aunque a diferente velocidad dependiendo la época, conceptos que carecen los jóvenes en gran medida y que por lo que veo no se le da mucha importancia en la enseñanza, si los jóvenes los tuviesen con la velocidad que tienen, no me cabe la menor duda que sí podrían estar ya ganando “Gran Slams” y citas importantes.
Conclusiones.
Todo este cambio de modelo en el perfil de juegadores se gestó hace 8-15 años que es cuando se estaban formando el actual supuesto relevo, el cambio de modelo en el relevo generacional de los jugadores actuales es producto de este 3er contexto.
Para bien o para mal, este 3er contexto contexto docente y social como resultado a las actuales generaciones que no han conseguido subir el nivel de juego, ni siquiera igualarlo, e igualarlo lo mido por victorias reales, no por apreciaciones potenciales de quien será…
Firmemente creo que para alcanzar el nivel de los 4 fantásticos, la formación de jugadores ha de recuperar los modelos metodológicos anteriores aunque adaptados a los nuevos tiempos, pero recuperando conceptos globales del juego como conocer un camino para ganar puntos y toda la filosofía que ese camino engloba, necesitan entender y saber sus puntos fuertes y débiles, como potenciar unos, cubrir otros y saber jugar con ellos, reconocer las diferentes situaciones del juego y saber jugar de acorde con ellas, basadas en la solidez y el orden con un dominio en sus golpes como para dibujar cualquier concepto táctico de forma continuada, necesitan saber pensar cuando juegan.
Creo que los jóvenes tienen carencias con respecto al juego en relación a la solidez y todo lo que conlleva, el 3er contexto y sus metodologías no han conseguido, ya no subir, si no igular el nivel de los anteriores.
No estoy del todo de acuerdo que adaptar esos modelos a los nuevos tiempos de como resultado jugador que peguen más fuerte a una velocidad incontrolable y fallen a la 5ª bola en un peloteo, a la 5º si hay suerte!!!, sin ningún tipo de control sobre sus golpes y sin conciencia de que el fallo no es parte del juego.
No estoy cuestionando los conocimientos acuales gracias a las ciencias aplicada al deporte, ni las nuevas metodologías basadas en ellos, solo digo paremos u poco y recapacitemos, que a lo mejor, este ahora es así por nosotros, no por que el Tennis haya cambiado por él mismo, una cosa es evolución y otra revolución y llevar la metodología hacia una modernidad simplemente por estar en la modernidad, despreciando conceptos que siempre han sido válidos basados en el juego y la solidez, a lo mejor no es lo correcto vista las consecuencias, creo que se esta perdiendo el “Big Picture” del jugador.
Se necesitan metodologías más enfocadas a la solidez del juego y menos a la excelencia técnica, y más cuando la excelencia técnica no existe ya que se está rectificando constantemente cuando se juega, metodologías enfocadas a la experiencia propia que a la información exterior, demasiada información externa y poca experiencia interna.
Paralelamente el entrenador ha de volverse a hacerse valer y ser respetado y ser el guía en el que se confie, eso lo podemos hacer, depende de nosotros, volver a ser mas respetados y educar al entorno que ha de entendar las bases validas para proporcionar nivel al jugador.
Por parte familiar necesitan formar personas con los valores necesarios para ser un deportista, los valores de estrella de cualquier “reality show” o cantante “teenager” no funcionan en nuestro deporte si se quiere ser profesional, recuerden la máxima Nº1, desde mi juicio, de la psicología del tenista: “a mas humildad, mejor ranking”
…y lo más importante es que el entorno ha de entender esto, y entender esto es no olvidarse nunca que antes de un Tenista hay un niño que se convertirá en una persona y ha de estar educada en esos valores…o sea papas y mamás dejen de malcriar y mimar a sus futuros Tenistas porque haciéndolo les garantizo que no jugarán un pimiento, yo y muchos profesionales de este deporté lo hemos visto, pero vemos que la historia se repite, predicamos en el desierto…
Actualmente se dan por validas actitudes y códigos de conducta que no son válidas para formar a jóvenes.
Esas actitudes eso no crea campeones en un deporte con un grado de auto exigencia muy alto, por favor que no se den por validas aptitudes que rompen los códigos necesarios para que el jugador progrese a más velocidad.
Existen jugadores con un gran potencial en el circuito para hacer frente a esta cúpula, con un gran futuro y con un recorrido para progresar enorme pero o bien su nivel de error no forzado es demasiado alto para ser competitivo, o no son sólidos, o bien no saben desarrollar una táctica adecuada, o no son ATLETAS, o no tienen la mentalidad adecuada ni la misma ambición, y esto hace que no consiguen unirse al grupo, si bajamos en el «Ranking» encontramos la misma situación, tanto en torneos, “Futures” o “Challenger” existen jugadores potencialmente muy buenos técnicamente y físicamente, pero con una progresión en el ranking lenta.
Si Raonic, Nishikory, Dimitrov jugases así continuadamente desde hace 6 años ya hubiese escrito otra historia, tienen el nivel, pero…
En los dos primeros contextos las bases que regían las relaciones jugador/entorno y entrenador/cuerpo técnico eran de respeto y reconocimiento al entrenador, al cual se respetaba en todas las decisiones y se confiaba la dirección de la carrera del jugador/a durante periodos de tiempo más o menos prolongados, y todo con una metodología mas exigente, actualizándose pero más enfocada desde el juego, basada en la solidez, también más loca digamos, pero válida para hacer personas duras, y este medio fue ideal para progresar o minimo igular, generación tras generación.
A lo mejor es problema de que las bases de las relaciones están equivocadas, si nosotros, los entrenadores, los padres y demás personas involucradas seguimos permitiendo estas actitudes en los jugadores cuando se están formando poca cosa sacaremos de ellos, pero lo más importante: pocas cosas sacaran ellos de ellos mismos. Si formamos personas tendremos buenos jugadores y si encima les enseñamos a jugar tendremos campeones, siendo consciente de que cada persona lleva un jugador dentro, no todo son Nº1, no todos pueden desarrollar el mismo Tennis, como Federer solo hay una persona que juega como él: ¡Roger Federer, NO SU HIJO!!! Aceptar y más exigencia con responsabilidades.
Se puede dejar de esta forma, justificado que esta es una generación extraordinaria y que hoy el nivel se alcanza más tarde, escondiéndonos de nuestra responsabilidad y protegiendo nuestros intereses en contra de los del Tennis o reconsiderar ciertos aspectos y rectificar, parar un poco, parar y ver si se está del todo acertado…visto lo visto a lo mejor merece consideración todo este asunto.
Creo que Tennis se beneficiaría más con jóvenes preparados jugando las rondas finales de los “Gran Slams” que, resignándonos a esta situación, viendo como pierden, los pocos que hay, en las rondas iniciales e incluso en las fases previas, o a promesas que parecen que…pero que descienden en el ranking al poco tiempo. Nadal, Roger, Nolan, Andy…son ídolos para la juventud…pongámonos a imaginar que pasaría actualmente si saliese un Andrés Agassi que jugase finales de “Gran Slam” con 19 años vestido de vaqueros y con melena rubia, o un “Boom Boom” Becker ganando Wimbledon con 17…esto sería una auténtica locura…pero beneficiaria al Tennis…y a su industria, como cuando salió nuestro Rafa, hace ya 12-13 años con su melena recogida y esos “cojones” que tuvo para destronar al “Nureyev” del Tennis.
Volvamos a ser exigentes y a educar el entorno como el deporte requiere, volvamos a hacer locuras en los entrenamientos, aunque no sean del todo beneficiosas en pos de un cuerpo perfecto, aunque si para la transmisora de valores y para la solidez, volvamos a premisas anteriores con los condicionantes actuales y casi seguro que el próximo Raonic, Nishikori, ganará un “Gran Slam” con 20.
